What is searching?

Searching refers to the practice of scanning the entire driving environment to identify potential hazards and understand the overall situation on the road. This involves looking not just directly in front of the vehicle, but also to the sides and behind, to gain awareness of other vehicles, pedestrians, traffic signals, and any obstacles that may be present. By maintaining a broad awareness of the surroundings, drivers can anticipate potential dangers and make informed decisions while behind the wheel.

Choosing to focus solely on the road in front, frequently checking mirrors, or simply lowering speed for better visibility does not encompass the full scope of searching. While those actions may contribute to safe driving practices, they do not replace the need for comprehensive scene awareness that searching requires.
